Mobile water solution at Swedish water treatment plant

At the end of February 2022 it was concluded that a water treatment plant in the area of Stockholm was in need of increased microbiological barriers in order to secure safe drinking water and an increase in production capability.

AFRY suggested that both of these issues could be solved by installing a standalone solution equipped with Ultrafiltration membranes, that could function alongside the existing treatment plant, sharing the existing carbon filters, disinfection and alkalization steps. Because of an ongoing discussion on how the open questions for drinking water and waste water should be answered within the municipality, the client was looking for a temporary solution until the political decision on these matters was made.

The main requirements for such a temporary unit were; a filtrate capacity of at least 140 m3/h, a compact and complete solution, documented high virus removal, a long-time rental option, a high level of automation, reference units for the specific application, a high level of customer service and a possibility for remote surveillance and monitoring. Delivery time was also an important factor due to the urgent need to solve the issues, hopefully before the coming summer.

A market scan resulted in a field trip to Logisticon Water Treatment in order to see the available ultrafiltration unit in real life. Impressed by the design, craftmanship, performance and applicability a suggestion was made to the municipal board to go ahead with Logisticon, which was approved.

Some preparations needed to be done at the existing treatment plant prior to commissioning, which took place in mid-June 2022. Unfortunately there where some issues with the old plant, which meant the commissioning could not be completed. These issues are being fixed and a second commissioning is being scheduled. The plan remains to have the Ultrafiltration unit in full operation this summer.
