On Wednesday, 24 September 2025, the sixth edition of National Tap Water Day of the Netherlands will take place. This day, organized by all Dutch drinking water companies, focuses on tap water as a healthy and sustainable way to quench your thirst.

Special educational materials are available for schools and after-school care centers to raise children’s awareness about drinking enough water and using tap water wisely. While tap water may seem self-evident in the Netherlands, it is far from guaranteed. Climate change is making it increasingly challenging to provide everyone with clean water. On average, a person uses 129 liters of water per day.

National Tap Water Day highlights how we can use water smartly:

• Use sparingly: take shorter showers or turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.
• Make conscious choices: drinking tap water instead of soft drinks benefits both the environment and your health.
• Think sustainably: reduce plastic bottles and lower CO₂ emissions.
