Temporary pilot solution for new flocculant test

In March Logisticon Rental installed a Polymer (PE) make-up unit at a production site of the drinking water company of Groningen (Waterbedrijf Groningen). This project was done in partnership with water research and consultancy firm WLN.

Waterbedrijf Groningen is responsible for the supply of clean drinking water to the province of Groningen. Waterbedrijf Groningen wants to potentially increase its production capacity of surface water treatment at their pumping station “De Punt” by optimizing their flocculation process. During flocculation, a chemical (flocculant) is added to the water to make smaller floating particles clump together. This creates larger flocs which settle more easily.

When the flow rate is higher the flocs produced with the currently used flocculant are too small and, particularly in combination with low water temperature, do not settle that well. Consequently, the turbidity of the water increases. By using an additional flocculant (Wisprofloc, an auxiliary flocculant) the flocs that have formed become larger and their settling properties drastically improve, also improving the settlement and removal rates.

For this test with Wisprofloc Logisticon installed a PE make-up unit which is fed by drinking water through a hydrophore set. Two manually adjustable dosage pumps with flow meters were also installed for the dosing of the Polymer. This set-up with two dosage pumps gives Waterbedrijf Groningen flexibility during the testing period by testing different quantities of flocculant at the two dosage points.

This practical example demonstrates how Logisticon is not only competent in supplying complete water treatment plants but also in the rental of individual components, ideally suited for pilot tests.
