Filtering and microsieving

Filtration and microsieving entail the separation of suspended solids from water by means of fine-mesh gauze. The particles that remain behind close the openings in the gauze even more, bringing about further filtration.

Filters for this purpose are available in various forms, the candle filter being the best known. The candle filter makes use of threads of textile, glass fibre or plastic spun in a special manner around a solid core.

The cartridge, the number of windings and thread composition determine the permeability of the filter. Candle filters are frequently used as a pretreatment for the protection of membrane filters.
Besides candle filters which cannot be cleaned, there are also filter systems on the market which are cleaned automatically.
