Surface water pilot for Dunea Valkenburgse Meer commissioned

 In a previous LogistiContour, we wrote about project Valkenburgse Meer. Dunea is looking for new sources to produce drinking water because the robust system, with two river sources (Maas and Lek) and 80km long pipes to the dunes, is becoming more and more vulnerable. Pollution is lurking, drought causes less river water to produce drinking water and the long pipelines seem to have to be moved more often to make plans of others possible, which renders them temporarily unavailable.

Dunea is looking for a mix of sources and technologies that guarantee the security of supply of good and reliable drinking water in all circumstances. One of these sources is preparing drinking water from surface water of the Valkenburgse Meer. The Valkenburgse Meer is being fed with water from the Oude Rijn. The quality of the water is in compliance with Duneas demands for a potential new source. A big advantage is that the Valkenburgse Meer is only 5km away from pumping station Katwijk, which means the transportation distance limited. Before the decision can be made to actually use the Valkenburgse Meer as new source for drinking water production, more research has to be done on best treatment technologies. Technologies used in the pilot installation are Microfiltration, Ultra filtration, Reverse Osmosis, Sand filtration (quick filters), including corresponding chemical storage & dosage and a mobile CIP unit. The different treatment technologies can be used in various configurations.

Logisticons scope of delivery also consists of;

  • Installing an industrial hall with an office and a lab
  • Designing, building, programming, and testing each treatment component (skid modular) in our workshop
  • Assembling all treatment components on site to form a single whole
  • Testing and commissioning everything on site
  • Civil works in and around the industrial hall
  • Maintenance during the testing period

For about 4 years, research will be conducted with this pilot plant at Valkenburgse Meer. At the end of the test period, the pilot plant will be dismantled and removed.
