Temporary drinking water facility during conversion drinking water station

In Central Europe, a lot of drinking water is obtained from surface water, mostly from lakes. To guarantee the supply of good quality drinking water in the future, a big utility company in Switzerland needed to modernize and expand its drinking water stations.

Because of the limited available space where the stations were built in the past, its in a lot of cases not possible to expand or build next to the existing stations. It even frequently occurs that drinking water stations are built in residential areas. To meet the demand for drinking water for Lugano, it is necessary to place a temporary installation during the demolition of the current infrastructure and the construction of the new station.

Together with her partner, who will build the new drinking water station, Logisticons rental department delivered a cascade of four mobile ultra filtration (UF) units that will account for the drinking water production for the coming 5 years, until the new station is in business. Water from Lake Lugano is pumped to a 40m3 buffer, after which it is treated by four containerised ultrafiltration units. Every container is able to produce up to 50 liters of drinking water per second. In total 200 liters per second are produced, which matches the production of the current station. The produced drinking water will be chlorinated in a storage tank before it is being fed to the drinking water system of Lugano.

This isn’t the first project of Logisticon together with her Swiss partner and therefore delivery, installation and start-up were realised within two weeks. The four UF units produce continuously and stand alone. From the Netherlands, the installation is being monitored online and operated if necessary.
