From pilot to performance: drum filter solution meets discharge limits
Problem

A Dutch steel mill was facing issues with the quality of its collected surface water. The levels of total suspended solids (TSS) regularly exceeded the permitted discharge limits. The primary problem was the presence of floating carbon particles in the collection basin, which made effective treatment more challenging. As a result, a tailored water treatment solution was required to bring the discharge values back within acceptable limits.

Solution

Logisticon Water Treatment carried out a pilot test to treat part of the total flow, 20 m³/h out of a full-scale capacity of 80 m³/h, using a drum filter system.
The goal was to assess the performance of various mesh sizes in reducing suspended solids to meet the discharge limit of 30 mg/l.
During the pilot, different mesh sizes were tested, including 60 micron, 40 micron, and 25 micron, allowing for a detailed evaluation of filtration efficiency under realistic operating conditions.
